Did you earn your teaching qualification in another German state? Find out how it's recognized in Hamburg here.

If you completed your teacher training program or obtained your teaching qualification in another federal state and would like to begin your preparatory service or teaching career in Hamburg, the relevant authority will review your documentation. This ensures that your qualifications meet the requirements. In general, teaching qualifications from other federal states are recognized in Hamburg, so there's usually nothing standing in the way of a transfer.

• Overview of the Bachelor's degree program
• officially certified copy of the master's certificate and diploma
• Overview of the Master's program
• officially certified copy of the certificate of the First State Examination
• Performance / study overview of the First State Examination
• if applicable, officially certified copy of the certificate of the (Second) State Examination
• if applicable, officially certified copies of extension examinations
• if applicable, a copy of proof of name change

You have completed a teacher training course in a federal state other than Hamburg, obtaining the First State Examination or a Master of Education, or you have successfully completed your preparatory service in another federal state.

• You apply for recognition of your teacher training course with the necessary documents to the responsible authority.
• The responsible authority will review your application and documents. If necessary, they will request additional documents or information from you.
• The responsible body compares your study and examination results with the Hamburg requirements.
• You will be informed of the results of the examination and can comment on them.
• The responsible authority will decide on your application.
• You will receive a notification.

Depending on the number of applications received, please allow approximately four weeks for processing.

You can apply for recognition at any time.
You need recognition before you can begin your preparatory service.
You need recognition in order to be employed in the teaching profession.
