Directive on youth health examination in the currently valid version
You can take advantage of health examinations for your children. Thus, the general state of health and age-appropriate development of a child is regularly examined by a doctor. Possible problems or abnormalities can be detected and treated at an early stage.
The statutory health insurance funds cover the costs of medical screening examinations for insured children and adolescents, which are also known as J-examinations. Children and adolescents up to the age of 18 can take advantage of the examinations. They serve the early detection of diseases that endanger their physical, mental or psycho-social development.
Details of the content, type and scope of the examinations are regulated by the Federal Joint Committee in the Guideline for Youth Health Examination (J1).
In principle, insured children and adolescents are entitled to early detection examinations until they reach the age of 18. However, the following examination periods must be observed:
- J1 13-14 years
There are no co-payments for health examinations of children and adolescents.
Numerous health insurance companies also offer another preventive examination, the J2, as a voluntary service between the ages of 16 and 17. Please check with your health insurance company.
To make an appointment, contact the attending physician. For more information, please contact your health insurance provider.
An appeal can be lodged against the decision of a health insurance fund. If the objection is not remedied, a complaint can be filed with the competent social court.
- Insured adolescents up to the age of 18 are entitled to examinations for the early detection of diseases that endanger their physical, mental or psycho-social development to a not insignificant extent, as well as to counselling.
- Investigations also include, among other things:
- Identification and assessment of health risks
- Checking the completeness of vaccination status
- Prevention-oriented counselling, including information on regional support services for parents and children
- The following guideline of the Federal Joint Committee regulates details of the content, nature and scope of the investigations:
