§ 87 Water Resources Act (WHG) and § 55 Hessian Water Act (HWG)
The Water Book is a register of water rights, provides environmental information and is important for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive. The water book is provided by the individual countries.
For all water bodies – groundwater and surface water – the water book is kept. Almost all existing water rights are entered in the water book. The water book provides information on the type, scope and purpose of water use.
For example: permits that do not only serve temporary purposes, permits, old rights and powers, planning approval decisions/planning permits, water/mineral spring protection areas, risk areas, defined floodplains, independent fishing rights under the Hessian Fisheries Act.
The water book is a public directory and can be viewed by anyone. The management of the water book is the responsibility of the regional councils of Darmstadt, Gießen and Kassel. They provide information from the water book.
The processing time depends on the quality and scope of the request for information.
