In certain individual cases or for certain applicants, exemptions from stopping and parking bans may be authorised.

For legal reasons, stopping bans must be set up at least 3 - 4 days before they come into force. The timely receipt of the application (sensibly about 14 days in advance) is therefore necessary. Short-term applications should, if necessary, be agreed in advance by telephone with the responsible StVB; if necessary, a transmission by fax / email is possible, which can save time.

Official traffic signs may only be erected if they have previously been ordered by the responsible StVB. The competent authority issues an order after the application has been submitted. It shall contain information on how the area concerned must be signposted. Only after receipt of the order may the relevant road signs be erected. The applicant is responsible for the installation, so that the traffic signs must be procured from a specialist company. As a rule, the StVB do not have their own traffic signs. In individual cases, it is also possible to borrow traffic signs from the depot of the local municipality/city (subject to a charge). The establishment of a no-stopping zone can be done personally or by a commissioned company. The application must be made in writing (usually informally). Responsible is the local road traffic authority (StVB) of the administration of the non-association municipality, the Verbandsgemeindeverwaltung and in large district-affiliated and district-free cities the city administration.
