Would you like to use your deregistered vehicle on the road again? Then you can re-register it with the registration authority.
If you want to use your deregistered vehicle on the road again, you must first re-register it.
This is a re-registration to the same owner if you are the person who was previously registered as the owner of the vehicle. If there has been a change of keeper, this is referred to as re-registration to a different keeper.
You can submit the application in person to the registration authority responsible for you or appoint a representative to do so.
- Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
- Valid electronic insurance confirmation (eVB)
- Valid general inspection and, if applicable, safety inspection
- valid identification document, e.g. identity card or passport of the vehicle owner
- If the passport is presented, a current registration certificate as well
- Account details or SEPA mandate for collecting the vehicle tax of the owner
- if available: completed application forms

If you wish to use a new license plate:
- Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
- if already available: new (desired) license plate reserved in advance including PIN
If you are represented by a third party or a third party:
- Written power of attorney and original identification document of the holder; the authorized person himself must be able to identify himself with his valid identity card or passport.
In the case of re-registration for minors:
- the written declaration of consent of the legal guardians and their original identity cards; if applicable, a certificate of sole custody ("negative certificate") in the case of single parents

- You must not have any vehicle tax debts of EUR 5 or more. This also includes late payment penalties, interest and late payment penalties.
- In Hesse, you must not have any outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration procedures of more than EUR 10 (including late payment surcharges).
In Hesse, the fee for re-registration via an iKfz portal increases by EUR 0.30 for stickers for inspection stickers. The fee does not include the costs for license plates.
In Hesse, the fee for re-registration at the local vehicle registration authority does not include the cost of license plates.
If you apply in person at the licensing authority, your application is usually processed immediately.
