Would you like to have a disability determined in accordance with the law on severely disabled persons? Then you can submit an application to the competent authority.

You have a health disorder / illness lasting more than 6 months and would like to have it determined as a disability according to the law on severely disabled persons (SGB IX)?
For this purpose, you can seek advice from the Hessian Office for Supply and Social Affairs responsible for you and also apply (online) for recognition of the severe disability.

• Form application/online application
• if another determination of the degree of disability has already been made, the pension notice or a corresponding administrative or judicial decision (e.g. decision of a professional association or a pension office or a branch office)
• any medical documents in your possession (e.g. expert opinions)
• If applicable, power of attorney or supervisor ID
• for non-EU applicants: proof of your legal residence
• Declaration of consent (§§67 and 100 of Book X of the Social Code –) to release the responsible doctors from their duty of confidentiality (see online and paper application)

Processing the online application is only valid (as with the previous paper application procedure) in conjunction with the signed "declaration of consent". This releases the doctors from their duty of confidentiality and enables the Hessian Offices for Supply and Social Affairs to examine your application, including all associated medical documents. Without a signed "declaration of consent", the online application is also incomplete and cannot be processed further. The signed declaration of consent can either be sent by post or directly (by scan and upload) via the online application.

In order to find the responsible Hessian Office for Supply and Social Affairs for your location, it is only necessary to enter your place of residence in the first input fields. Before sending your data, you will be shown the responsible pension office with associated contact details.     

The application is free of charge.

At the request of the disabled person, the Hessian Offices for Supply and Social Affairs determine the existence of a disability and the degree of disability at the time of application.

If a special interest is credibly demonstrated, it can be determined upon request that a degree of disability or health characteristics already existed at an earlier point in time.

If you have a severe disability, you can receive tax benefits. Information can be found in a brochure of the Hessian Ministry of Finance, which can also be downloaded or requested from its website. Further disadvantage compensation such as parking facilitation, exemption from the obligation to pay the broadcasting fee, discounts at the post office for blind consignments and much more can be found on the website of the social network Hessen "mit".

The application for recognition of a severe disability must be applied for in writing or online (in both cases with the corresponding and signed declaration of consent) at the Hessian Offices for Supply and Social Affairs.
