The task of integration assistance is to enable people with disabilities to lead an individual life and to promote full, effective and equal participation in life in society.

Integration assistance benefits include in particular:

• Early intervention and early counselling for disabled children and their parents
• Promotion of the integration of mentally and physically handicapped children in kindergartens and general education schools
• Assistance for an appropriate school education
• Assistance for school education in an appropriate occupation
• Help to attend a university
• Medical rehabilitation services
• Benefits for participation in working life
• Services in the work area of a recognised workshop for disabled people
• Benefits for participation in community life

Persons who are not only temporarily mentally, emotionally or physically significantly disabled or are threatened by such a disability are eligible. The benefits of integration assistance are subordinated to the benefits of other social service providers/rehabilitation providers (e.g. health insurance fund, pension insurance institution, employment agency, accident insurance institution).

Furthermore, beneficiaries must pay a personal contribution from their income or assets if this exceeds a certain amount. However, certain performance groups are generally excluded from the use of a personal contribution. Special rules apply to the calculation of the amount.

Depending on the circumstances, you need e.g.

• Proof of disability
• all proof of income
• Proof of accommodation costs and proof of assets (bank information)

If, after examining your application, you are entitled to integration assistance, this will be granted to you at the earliest from the first of the month in which the application was submitted, if the conditions were already met at that time.

In order to achieve the most effective promotion of the disabled person, the social assistance provider draws up an overall plan for the implementation of the individual benefits as early as possible together with the disabled person, the attending physician, the health authority and possibly with the youth welfare office or the employment agency.

For the granting of integration assistance, the following is required:

• until the end of school education at a general school or a special school , or
• if the benefits are applied for for the first time after reaching the individual standard retirement age

the administrative district or the district-free city in whose district the recipient of the aid actually resides. You can also submit the application to your municipality. The latter is obliged to forward the application to the competent authority.
