In order to participate in an election, you need a certain amount of support from the population. Therefore, all electoral laws stipulate that a certain number of signatures of support from citizens entitled to vote must be submitted for nominations by parties, groups of voters and individual candidates who are not represented by a minimum number of deputies in parliament or the body to be elected in order to be admitted to the election
The following are required for:
- European elections
2,000 for a state list and 4,000 for a federal list - Bundestag elections
200 for a district election proposal and 2,000 for a state list - State elections
50 for a district election proposal and 1,000 for a state list - Direct elections
twice as many signatures as there are seats in the municipal council or in the district council
The supporting signatures must be made in person and by hand on official forms issued by the responsible election committees on request to the election nominees. Each person entitled to vote may only support one nomination with his or her signature.
For each supporter, their right to vote must be confirmed by the municipality responsible for their main residence. As a rule, the certificate of eligibility to vote is made on the same form on which the supporting signature was made; It is free of charge.
Depending on the upcoming election to the municipal, district, state or federal returning officer, pay attention to the corresponding official announcements inviting the submission of nominations.
