If you have any questions about infection control, you can contact the Public Health Service.
The Public Health Service will provide you with general information on specific notifiable infectious diseases, such as: What should you do in the event of an infection or outbreak? What are the transmission paths? How great is the risk of infection? How can I protect myself and my family?
As a supervisory authority, a municipal health department ensures public hygiene and the implementation of infection protection in its area of responsibility.
As a lower health authority, it advises citizens and institutions on questions relating to infection hygiene and health issues.
One of the sovereign tasks of the Public Health Service (ÖGD) is also the infection hygiene monitoring of medical facilities according to the Infection Protection Act. The responsible health authority carries out infection hygiene inspections in medical and public facilities and advises on hygiene deficiencies or local outbreaks of infectious diseases.
The ÖGD advises the population on vaccinations, the prevention of communicable diseases and on all topics of drinking water and bathing water hygiene. The advice is free of charge for the citizen and is kept anonymous.
Please inquire with your local health authority about the necessary documents required to process your request.
Your responsible health authority will advise you either in the form of consultation hours, by telephone or by e-mail. The processing time and intensity of the consultation varies depending on the topic and individual case. If there is an urgent and rapid need for action from an infection hygiene point of view, priority is given to processing.
The ÖGD (Public Health Service) is referred to as the third pillar of the health care system alongside outpatient and inpatient medical care. The ÖGD deals with population-related health issues and focuses on prevention, i.e. the prevention of infectious diseases, for example.
The health department takes care of citizens in its area of responsibility who have difficult access to standard health care or who live in difficult social conditions.
- If you are affected yourself or have questions about infection protection, then the Public Health Service is responsible.
- The consultation is free of charge and anonymous.
