The Realschule provides its pupils with a general education and allows them to focus on their achievements and inclinations. Lessons at the Realschule build on the content and learning techniques acquired in elementary school. The methods are age-appropriate and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning. The course leads to the Realschule certificate.
The Realschule not only teaches subject knowledge and skills, but also attitudes and attitudes that facilitate the learning and working process. With the transition to year 7, there is an interdisciplinary focus on career orientation; company visits and internships provide an overview of the requirements of the professional and working world.
Pupils at the Realschule take part in a final examination in year 10. This consists of two parts: the central final papers in the subjects German and mathematics and in the first foreign language as well as a presentation based on a term paper or an oral examination.
The Realschulabschluss (intermediate school-leaving certificate) offers entry into a dual apprenticeship and, depending on performance, also entitles students to transfer to secondary schools.
In Hesse, the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs is responsible for the school system.
