The Infection Protection Act (IfSG) protects the population in Germany. It also provides financial compensation for people who are affected by the protective measures.
If you are placed in domestic quarantine or banned from working as a result of an official measure under the Infection Protection Act and suffer a loss of earnings as a result, you are generally entitled to compensation for the loss of earnings incurred.
Self-employed persons whose business or practice is closed for the duration of the quarantine or work ban can also apply for compensation for ongoing and uncovered operating expenses.
Such operating expenses include, for example, rent for business premises, insurance costs and other fixed costs that are no longer covered by income. Reimbursement is made to an appropriate extent.
Payment and application are made to the competent authority. The application for compensation must be submitted retroactively within 2 years of the start of the ban on activities or the end of the quarantine.
- Proof of the amount of uncovered operating expenses
- Proof of income (tax assessment notice) for the previous year
- If available: Proof of loss of income during the period of the activity ban or isolation/quarantine
- Proof of insurance benefits received, if applicable
- If available: Proof of the officially ordered ban on work or the officially ordered isolation/quarantine
- There was a quarantine in accordance with Section 30 IfSG or a ban on work in accordance with Section 31 IfSG.
- There was no possibility of compensating for the loss of earnings through another reasonable activity.
- The business or practice was completely suspended during the period of loss of earnings
- The suspension of the business has resulted in uncovered operating expenses
- The application for compensation must be submitted within 24 months of the start of the ban on work or the end of the quarantine.
- There was no illness or inability to work.
Applications must be submitted in writing to the competent authority.
