Geburtenregister

The following data is recorded in the birth register:

• the child's first name and surname,
• the place, day and hour of birth and the sex of the child
• the first names and surnames of the parents
• at the request of one of the parents, their legal affiliation to a religious community that is a public corporation.

If the child cannot be assigned to either the female or the male sex, the birth can also be entered in the register of births without specifying the sex or with the indication divers.

The mother of the child is the woman who gave birth to the child.

In the case of a married mother, the child's father is the husband. If the child is born after the death of the husband, this man is deemed to be the father, provided the birth took place within 300 days of his death. If the mother is divorced and the child was born after the divorce decree became final, the former husband is not considered the child's father.

If the mother is not married at the time of the birth, a man can only be entered as the father on the birth certificate if he has already acknowledged paternity. Otherwise, the competent authority will subsequently enter the father in the register of births.
