The birth of a child must be reported to the registry office responsible for the place of birth.

Volltext

As a custodial parent, you must register the birth of your child at the registry office responsible for the place of birth.

If your child is born in a hospital or other facility where obstetric care is provided, this facility will be responsible for registering the birth. In this case, you should find out from the maternity facility in good time which documents you need to bring with you to the delivery date.

If a confidential birth is planned, please contact an advice center or the hospital or other facility where obstetric care is provided.

If the birth does not take place in a hospital or other facility where obstetric care is provided (home birth), the birth must be registered in person by a custodial parent at the registry office within one week. If the parents are unable to register the birth, the birth must be registered by another person who was present at the birth.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

You will need the following documents:

  • Identity card, passport or a recognized passport replacement document from you as parents
  • for parents who are married to each other

    • Birth certificates of the parents

    • Marriage certificate or a certified printout from the marriage register

  • for parents who are not married to each other

    • Birth certificate of the mother

Verfahrensablauf

The notification of birth is done as follows:

  • You must complete the notification of birth.
  • You must also enter the surname and first name(s) of the child.
  • If your child is born in a hospital or other facility where obstetric care is provided, the notification of birth will be taken over by this facility. You will provide the maternity facility with the documents required to register the birth with the registry office.
  • If you give birth at home, you must register the birth of the child in person at the registry office responsible for the place of birth, submitting the necessary documents within the deadline.
  • Once the birth has been certified, you will receive a birth certificate for the child as a civil status certificate.
  • If you are unable to provide the registry office with all the documents required for the certification, an explanatory note will be included in the birth entry. Instead of a birth certificate, only a certified printout from the civil status register can be issued as a civil status certificate.
