Would you like to change the type of school for your child? Then you can apply for a change of school type under certain conditions.

A change of school type has an impact on your child's educational path. In the 4th grade of elementary school, your child will receive a recommendation for the type of school for the choice of further education from the 5th grade onwards. This recommendation is not binding. You can also register your child at a different type of school.

Before the end of the trial level (at the end of year 6), the school will assess whether the pupil should continue to attend the chosen type of school or change type of school, taking into account the pupil's performance level, the previous support measures provided by the school and the expected development of the pupil.

If it becomes apparent in Year 7 up to the end of Year 8 that the chosen type of school is not the most suitable for your child, there is the possibility of changing to another type of school under certain conditions. You must submit an application for this.

If your child is identified as having special educational needs, you decide whether your child should transfer to a special school or remain in a joint learning program at the elementary school or secondary general school.

At secondary level I, the school also reviews annually whether parents of high-achieving pupils should be advised to transfer their child from the Hauptschule to the Realschule or Gymnasium and from the Realschule to the Gymnasium.

Pupils who have not yet completed compulsory full-time schooling and have not yet exceeded the maximum length of stay at lower secondary level generally have to change school type if they have already repeated the same grade once and again fail to achieve promotion to the next higher grade.

• Pupils or their legal guardians can submit their application via the Schüler Online internet portal (www.schueleranmeldung.de).
• The respective school decides on the registration and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.
• Please note that even in the case of online registration, a personal appointment at the school is necessary for the head teacher to decide whether to admit your child.
