If you are temporarily unable to continue your household due to illness or other circumstances and no other person in the household can do so, you can apply for help to continue your household.

If you are temporarily unable to continue your household due to an emergency situation - whether because of illness, imprisonment, recuperation measures or even after a death - and no other person in the household can take over this either, you can apply for help to continue the household from the social welfare institution responsible for you. You can receive help if it is necessary and reasonable to continue the household, for example, because you have to take care of children.

Within the framework of help to continue the household, you can receive support for all activities that you can no longer manage, at least in part. This includes household chores as well as personal care for children and other family members living in the household.

Assistance to continue the household is a social benefit based on your income and assets. It is only provided if you do not receive the required benefit from others or from providers of other social benefits, such as benefits from the statutory health insurance fund, assistance with care or education.

As a rule, help to continue the household is only intended to support you temporarily. You can therefore only apply for it for a transitional period. This restriction does not apply if the assistance can avoid or postpone placement in an inpatient facility.

• Neither you yourself as the person running the household nor another person in the household can continue to run it due to a temporary emergency.
• It is necessary and reasonable to continue the household, for example, because you take care of underage, school-age children.
• You are dependent on the assistance because you cannot finance the household help yourself.
• The assistance is needed only temporarily. This restriction does not apply if the assistance enables you to avoid or postpone placement in an inpatient facility.

• Objection
  You can lodge an appeal against the decision within one month of its notification.
• Action
  You can file a complaint against the appeal decision with the competent social court within one month of its notification.

• Assistance for the continuation of the household Approval.
• Persons can apply for help to continue the household, if
  • the person has his/her own household,
  • the person running the household is unable to continue the household himself/herself due to a temporary emergency,
  • no other members of the household are able to continue the household,
  • the continuation of the household is necessary,
  • no one else, for example no provider of other social benefits, takes over the help, for example by entitlement to help for care, help for education or benefits by the health insurance companies.

  • activities necessary for the continuation of the household
