Driving licenses for categories C, CE, C1, C1E, D, DE, D1 or D1E can be extended for five years at the request of the license holder.

The driving license for categories C, CE, C1 or C1E, D, DE, D1 or D1E is issued for a maximum of five years and can be extended by five years at the request of the license holder.

• Official proof of place and date of birth (e.g. identity card, passport)
• Previous driver's license
• a current photograph that complies with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (biometric, size 45 mm x 35 mm, portrait format)
• Proof of eyesight in accordance with the model in Annex 6 No. 2 to the Driving License Ordinance.
  You can have the certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, a company or occupational physician or a doctor from the public health department. An issued certificate is valid for 2 years.
• Proof of physical and mental aptitude according to the model in Annex 5 of the Driving License Ordinance
  You can have the certificate issued by any doctor. The certificate must not be older than one year at the time of application.
• In addition, for categories D, D1, DE, D1E, if you have reached the age of 50, a performance psychology report. The certificate must not be older than one year at the time of application.

The fee is based on the current version of the scale of fees for road traffic measures.

Please contact the driving license authority responsible for your place of residence.

The application can be submitted at the earliest six months before the expiry date of the previous driving license.

Please note: If the application is submitted after the expiry date of the previous driving license, a new driving license will be issued instead of an extension. The fact that you were previously the holder of a corresponding driving license is then no longer evident from the new driving license.

Regardless of whether it is a genuine extension or a new issue (due to late application), a new driving license will always be issued.
