If you are moving to an inland waterway vessel that is registered for a domestic shipping register, you must register.
If you are sailing on a seagoing vessel that is entitled to fly the federal flag, the shipowner will register you. To do this, you must provide the shipowner with the necessary information.
In both cases, you are not required to register if you are registered for a residence in Germany.
The following requirements must be met:
- You occupy an inland waterway vessel or a seagoing vessel,
- the inland waterway vessel must be registered in a domestic shipping register or the seagoing vessel must be authorized to fly the federal flag and
- You are not registered in a residence in Germany.
The registration process is as follows:
- You present yourself in person.
- You present your identity document.
- A registration form is filled out by you or the registration office.
- You will receive a written confirmation of registration from the registration office.
- Residence registration for inland navigation operators and seafarers
- If an inland waterway vessel is used that is registered in a ship register in Switzerland, the person must register at the location of the ship's home port
- if the seagoing vessel flies the federal flag, the shipowner must register the vessel
- the registration obligations described do not apply if the person is registered in Switzerland for a residence
- Responsible: Registration authority of the ship's home port or that of the shipowner
- Registration can also be made with other registration authorities and the water police
For inland waterway skippers, the registration authority of the municipality or city in which the ship's home port is located. Other registration authorities or the water police may accept your registration, which will then be forwarded to the registration authority of the home port.
For seafarers, the registration authority at the shipowner's registered office.
