As a German or a national of the European Union who has reached the age of 16 on election day, you are entitled to vote in the electoral area in which you have had your residence, main residence or habitual abode without a residence outside the electoral area since at least the 16th day before the election.
You will be entered in the voters' register ex officio as a person entitled to vote if you are entitled to vote on the 42nd day before the election and are not excluded from the right to vote.
The voters' register contains the surname, first name, date of birth and details of the home of the person entitled to vote.
If you have moved in and are registered after the 42nd day but up to the 16th day before the election, you will also be entered in the voters' register ex officio. If this does not happen, you can apply to be entered by the start of the inspection period.
You can inspect the electoral roll on working days from the 20th to the 16th calendar day before the election during the general opening hours of the municipal authority.
The following requirements apply to the electoral roll for local elections:
- Inspection of your own data: You are entitled to vote
- Access to the data of other persons (not possible for persons with an information block): You are entitled to vote and you have credibly demonstrated facts from which the inaccuracy or incompleteness of the electoral roll may arise
- Production of extracts of other persons' data: You are entitled to vote and you have provided credible evidence that the electoral roll is incorrect or incomplete
The procedure is as follows:
- You go to the local authority during general opening hours
- You can inspect the electoral roll with regard to your own data
- You can inspect the electoral roll with regard to the data of other persons if you can provide credible evidence that the electoral roll is incorrect or incomplete. In this context, you can produce extracts from the electoral roll in order to check the voting rights of specific individuals.
- Voters' register for the municipal election
- Anyone who is German or a German national or a national of the European Union on election day and has reached at least the age of 16 and has had their residence, main residence or habitual abode without residence outside the electoral area since at least the 16th day before the election in the electoral area is entitled to vote.
- all persons are entered in the voters' register for whom it has been established on the 42nd day before the election that they are entitled to vote and are not excluded from the right to vote
- Details in the voters' register: Surname, first name, date of birth, address of residence
- Persons who have moved to the city after the 42nd day but up to the 16th day before the election and are registered with the registration office are also entered in the electoral roll ex officio
- Registration on request possible until the start of the inspection period
- Inspection is granted on working days from the 20th to the 16th day before the election during general opening hours
