Would you like to be reimbursed for your child's school transportation costs? Read the most important information here.

If your child attends a school in Saxony-Anhalt that is not within walking distance, the district or independent city offers transportation. In most cases, the schools are integrated into the local public transport system (e.g. bus or train) or a school bus runs.

If no transport is organized by the district or independent city, you may be able to have the travel costs between your main place of residence and the nearest school of the chosen type of school reimbursed.

In the following cases, pupils in an area are entitled to reasonable transportation or the respective legal guardians are entitled to reimbursement of the necessary expenses by the responsible school transportation provider:

• Attendance at a general education school up to and including the 10th grade or
• Attendance at a special school or
• Participation in a vocational preparation year or
• Attendance at the first year of vocational schools whose entry requirements do not include an intermediate school leaving certificate

and,

• Exceeding the minimum distance determined by the school transportation provider or
• in the case of a disability, regardless of the minimum distance.

In certain cases, there is also an entitlement to reimbursement of transportation costs if the school attended is not the nearest school.

The responsible office will tell you which documents you need.

• Your child lives in Saxony-Anhalt and goes to school here.
• No school transport is offered by the district or the independent city.

Other requirements must also be met, for example the minimum distance to the school. The responsible office will advise you.

None.

• You apply to your district or city for reimbursement of the travel costs for your child.
• The responsible authority will check whether you can be reimbursed.
• If this is the case, you will be reimbursed for the necessary school transport costs.

If the travel costs for the previous school year are to be reimbursed, please submit the application by September 30 of each year.

In the following cases, there is an entitlement to cost relief (pro rata reimbursement of travel costs). In these cases, a personal contribution of EUR 100 per school year must be paid:

• Attendance of school years 11 and 12 of a grammar school, attendance of school years 11 to 13 of a comprehensive school, a community school or an independent Waldorf school or
• Attendance at a vocational school, a technical school, a technical secondary school or a vocational grammar school.

A complaint can be filed with the competent administrative court against the decisions of the districts or independent cities.

The district or the independent city usually offers transportation to the nearest school for pupils. However, if no transport is organized, the travel costs incurred can be reimbursed.
