Translators (written translation) and interpreters (oral translation) can be generally sworn and publicly appointed for language translation for judicial, official and notarial purposes in accordance with the Interpreters Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (DolmG LSA). The generally sworn and publicly appointed translators and interpreters are entered in an electronic directory (translators' and interpreters' directory). The register is accessible on the Internet and can be viewed by anyone. Entries in the electronic directory can be processed via the state coordinators at the regional court in Halle.

The advantage of the general oath is that if a court or notary public in the district in which the interpreter has been sworn in, it is sufficient to invoke the general oath instead of taking the oath in individual cases.

All documents required to verify the requirements for swearing in (e.g. passport or identity card, registration certificate, permanent residence permit if applicable) must be attached to the application in the original or as a certified copy.

Interpreters who are not generally sworn may also be called upon to attend court hearings. However, the interpreter must be sworn in by the presiding judge for this hearing before commencing work.

Proceedings may be brought before the administrative courts.

The President of the Regional Court in whose district the applicant has his or her professional domicile is responsible for the general swearing-in and public appointment. For applicants without a professional domicile, the main residence is decisive.

The general swearing-in and public appointment takes place upon written application. No official forms are provided for the application.
