Fahrerlaubnis der Klassen AM, A, A1, A2 oder A beantragen

You can apply for a category AM, A1, A2 or A driving licence.

With driving licence class AM, you can drive two- and three-wheeled mopeds as well as four-wheeled light motor vehicles.

With driving licence class A1, you can drive motorcycles with a displacement of up to 125 cubic centimetres and up to 11 kW of power.

With driving licence class A2, you can drive motorcycles up to 35 kW power, the output power of which is not more than 70 kW.

With a class A driving licence, you can drive motorcycles as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles.

The driving licence classes AM, A1, A2 and A are issued for an indefinite period.

To obtain the driver's license, you must pass a theoretical and practical exam.

• valid identity card or passport (if applicable, with current registration certificate)
• where applicable, an application for a driving licence
• a biometric photograph in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal shot).
• Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of participation in first aid training

• You must have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
• The minimum age for class AM is 15 years.
• The minimum age for class A1 is 16 years.
• The minimum age for class A2 is 18 years.
• The minimum age for category A is 24 years for motorcycles with direct access, 21 years for three-wheel motor vehicles with a power of more than 15 kW or 20 years for motorcycles with a previous possession of category A2 of at least 2 years.

The fee is based on the Schedule of Fees for Road Traffic Measures (RFees).

If the driver's license is sent directly to the home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

The application for the first licence is forfeited if the theoretical test has not been passed within 12 months of receipt of the test order or if the practical test has not been passed within 12 months of passing the theoretical test.

The first driving licence (with the exception of AM, L and T) is obtained on a trial basis. The probationary period lasts 2 years.

• Driving licence category AM entitles the holder to drive two- and three-wheel mopeds as well as four-wheeled light motor vehicles
• Driving licence category A1 entitles the holder to drive motorcycles with a displacement of up to 125 cubic centimetres and an output of up to 11 kW, in which the power-to-weight ratio does not exceed 0.1 kW/kg, as well as three-wheel motor vehicles with symmetrically arranged wheels and a displacement of more than 50 cubic centimetres in the case of internal combustion engines or a maximum design speed of more than 45 km/h and with an output of up to 15 kW
• Driving licence class A2 entitles the holder to drive motorcycles with a power of up to 35 kW, the ratio of power to weight of which is not more than 0.2 kW/kg and the output power of which is not more than 70 kW
• with a class A driving licence, the applicant can drive motorcycles and three-wheeled motor vehicles
• responsible: competent driving licence authority

You can submit the application to the driving licence authority responsible for you in your district or independent city.

It is also possible to apply through the driving school where you complete the theoretical and practical driving training.
