If you want to care for one or more children outside the household of the parent or guardian regularly and against payment, you usually need permission to do so. You can apply for this at the responsible youth welfare office.
Children between the ages of 0 and 14 can be cared for in the day care centre. You need a child day care permit if you want to care for one or more children outside the parent or guardian's household for more than 3 months during part of the day and more than 15 hours a week for a fee.
Permission for day care for children
- is issued by the local youth welfare office,
- is limited to 5 years,
- may be provided with ancillary provisions,
- authorizes you to care for up to 5 foreign children present at the same time.
- Impeccable extended police clearance certificate according to § 72a SGB VIII

- Health certificate (re-proof every 5 years)
- Proof of qualification as a childcare worker
Permission will be granted to you if you are suitable for child day care. This is to be assumed if:
- you are distinguished by your personality, expertise and willingness to cooperate with legal guardians and other childcare workers,
- you have child-friendly premises,
- You have a good knowledge of the requirements in child day care. You must have acquired this knowledge in qualified courses.
You can apply for a care permit at the responsible youth welfare office, submit the following documents here:
- Completed qualification as a child day care worker
- Police clearance certificate
- medical certificate (on measles protection)
Afterwards, the child-friendly premises are checked by a joint inspection with the local youth welfare office.
