Would you like to apply for relief from the costs of school transport? Read the most important information here.

If your child attends a school in Saxony-Anhalt that is not within walking distance, the district or independent city offers transportation. In most cases, the schools are integrated into the bus network or a school bus runs.

If no transport is organized by the district or independent city, you can apply for relief for the travel costs between your main place of residence and the nearest school.

Relief means that you will be reimbursed for the costs of school transportation. This only applies up to a certain maximum amount. The maximum amount is determined by the district or city. You must pay a personal contribution of 100 euros for school transport yourself.

Students in dual training are not entitled to relief (training contract with a company, receipt of a training allowance).

If you attend a school outside your place of residence, you are entitled to the most expensive season ticket for the fare zone of your place of residence. You will also have to pay a contribution towards this.

In certain cases, you are also entitled to relief from transportation costs if the school you attend is not the nearest school.

You can find out which documents you need to present from your district or independent city.

As a rule, you will need to present the original tickets.

You will also find the necessary applications at the relevant office.

• Your child lives or you live in Saxony-Anhalt
• and your child goes to school in Saxony-Anhalt.
• The district or independent city does not offer a school bus or school transportation.
• Your child goes to the following school:
  • Years 11 and 12 at grammar schools
  • Years 11-13 of comprehensive schools and Waldorf schools
  • Vocational schools
  • technical colleges
  • Technical colleges
  • Vocational grammar schools
    

• You apply to your district or city for relief from the transportation costs for your child or, if you are already of age, for yourself.
• The responsible office will check whether you meet the requirements and can receive relief from the transportation costs.
• If this is the case, you will be relieved of the costs of school transportation minus a personal contribution of 100 euros per school year.

If the travel costs for the previous school year are to be reimbursed, please submit the application by September 30 of each year.

In certain cases, you are entitled to reimbursement of travel costs. You do not have to pay your own share of the reimbursement.

You will be reimbursed in the following cases:

• The district or city does not provide school transportation (e.g. by school bus)
• Attendance at a general education school up to the 10th grade or
• Attendance at a special school or
• Participation in a basic vocational training year or a vocational preparation year and,
• Exceeding the minimum distance or
• Irrespective of the minimum distance, in the case of a disability.

In certain cases, there is also an entitlement to reimbursement of transportation costs if the school attended is not the nearest school.

A complaint can be filed with the competent administrative court against the decisions of the districts or independent cities.
