The coat of arms of the state of Saxony-Anhalt is carried in a semicircular shield.

The shield is divided. The upper part is determined by the old provincial coat of arms of the Prussian province of Saxony; it shows the colors gold-black in a ninefold division, diagonally to the right covered with a green diamond wreath; in the upper left third there is a silver free field with the gold-armed black eagle looking to the right.
The lower part of the shield represents the Anhalt part of the country; it depicts a black bear striding on a red crenellated wall on a silver background. The country's coat of arms is depicted on the national service flag, the seals of the country's authorities and on official plates.

According to its historical and legal function, the coat of arms of Saxony-Anhalt is generally reserved for state authorities. Use for economic and private purposes is not permitted.

The state government has created a state symbol next to it. This can be used by anyone with a permit and free of charge to document the affiliation to Saxony-Anhalt or the attachment to the country or the origin of commercial products.
