If you are temporarily unable to run the household yourself due to pregnancy or childbirth and no family member is able to do this work, you can apply for support from a home help.

The health insurance fund will either send you a replacement or reimburse you for a reasonable amount if you employ someone yourself. Before you employ someone, you should find out in advance from your statutory health insurance company what benefits you can receive.

Note: Most statutory health insurance companies work together with appropriate organisations and provide a replacement. If this is not possible or appropriate, the costs of a self-organised replacement will be reimbursed to a reasonable extent.

• Medical certificate, which should contain the following information:
  • certificate of the expected date of birth,
  • date of delivery,
  • expected duration of hospitalisation.

• The person running the household is insured under the statutory health insurance scheme.
• No other person living in the household can take over the running of the household.

If you are a member of a private health insurance company, the assistance you receive depends on the contractual arrangements you have agreed with your health insurance company. If in doubt, you should therefore enquire with your private health insurance company.
