If your driving licence has been withdrawn by a court or by the driving licence authority and you want to drive a motor vehicle on the road again, you must obtain a new driving licence.
In principle, the regulations on the initial issue of a driving licence apply to the new issue of a driving licence after revocation or resignation. This means that the driving licence is not "automatically" reissued. Rather, the driving licence authority must thoroughly examine whether the applicant is suitable and competent to drive a motor vehicle.
If the driving licence authority has withdrawn your driving licence because you have accumulated too many points in the central traffic register, a new driving licence may be issued at the earliest six months after the withdrawal of the driving licence takes effect. This period does not begin until the driving licence is resignateded.
- Identity card (or passport with current confirmation of registration)
- certificate of good conduct type "O
- biometric photo
- criminal court order or court judgement with a note of res judicata
- proof of participation in first aid training (valid for an unlimited period)
- for new licences for categories A, A1, A2, AM, B, BE, L and T, additionally an eye test certificate; if the eye test is not passed, a certificate from the ophthalmologist in accordance with Annex 6 to the Driving Licence Ordinance (not older than two years at the time of application)
- in addition, in the case of a new licence for categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE and a driving licence for the carriage of passengers:
- certificate of a general medical examination in accordance with Annex 5 to the Driving Licence Ordinance (not older than one year at the time of application)
- certificate of a general medical examination of eyesight or, if applicable, a certificate from the ophthalmologist in accordance with Appendix 6 to the Driving Licence Ordinance (not more than two years old when application is made)
- for categories D1, D1E, D, DE and driving licences for passenger transport additionally
- company or occupational medical report or report of an officially recognised assessment centre for driving aptitude in accordance with Annex 5 to the Driving Licence Ordinance (not older than one year at the time of application)
Under "Notes (special features)" (see below) you will find more detailed explanations of the required certificates.
- If there are facts which justify the assumption that the applicant no longer possesses the required knowledge and skills, a driving test will be ordered.
- If your driving licence has been withdrawn because you have not complied with an order to attend a postgraduation seminar, attendance at a postgraduation seminar is a prerequisite for the new issue of your driving licence.
- In order to clarify doubts about your suitability, it may be necessary to have your fitness to drive checked within the framework of a medical or medical-psychological examination (MPU). If, for example, you were driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.6 per mille or more, the medical-psychological examination is mandatory.
- Depending on the result of the assessment, a new licence may only be issued after completion of a course to restore aptitude.
The examination of your suitability and qualification takes some time - for this reason, you should submit your application for a new licence three months before the expiry of a possible ban period.
