Service driver's licences of the Federal Armed Forces, the Federal Police and the police only entitle the holder to drive service vehicles and are only valid for the duration of the service relationship (service driver's licence). As the holder of a service driver's licence, you can obtain a "civilian" driver's licence under simplified conditions for the duration of the service relationship.

When the "civilian" driving licence is issued, the following regulations are not applied:
- medical examination and examination of eyesight - unless an examination is required in corresponding application of the regulations on the period of validity and renewal of driving licences
- eye test
- qualification test
- first aid training
- regulations on training
The same applies in case of presentation of a certificate of the Federal Armed Forces, the Federal Police or the Police stating for which class of motor vehicles the service driver's licence was issued.
- Identity card or passport with current confirmation of registration (alternatively, a current confirmation of personal data by the registration office)
- official driving licence or, after leaving the service, a certificate of former possession of the official driving licence
- civilian driving licence (if available)
- biometric photo
- when applying for a driving licence for categories C, C1, C, CE additionally:
- certificate of a general medical examination (not older than one year at the time of application)
- certificate of medical examination of eyesight or, if applicable, a certificate from an ophthalmologist (not older than two years at the time of application)
- in the case of an application for a driving licence for categories D1, D1E, D, DE additionally:
- certificate of a general medical examination (not older than one year at the time of application)
- certificate of medical examination of eyesight or, if applicable, a certificate from the ophthalmologist (not more than two years old when application is made)
- occupational or occupational medical certificate or certificate from an officially recognised assessment centre for driving aptitude (not older than one year when application is made)
- Issue with probationary period: EUR 44.70 and, if applicable, expenses for the dispatch of the driving licence
- Issue without probationary period: EUR 43.90 and, if applicable, expenses for the dispatch of the driving licence
