If your registration certificate Part I (former vehicle registration certificate) or Part II (former vehicle ownership certificate) is lost or stolen, you will need new registration certificates Part I or II as a replacement.
If a lost registration certificate is found after the replacement has been issued, you must hand it in to the registration authority.
- valid identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
- declaration of loss or confirmation of theft report from the police
- by proxy: additionally
- written power of attorney
- identity card or passport with current registration confirmation of the authorised representative
- if applicable: the vehicle owner's affidavit made before a notary public
- proof of the main inspection (if the registration certificate part I / vehicle licence is lost)
As you will receive high-quality and forgery-proof registration certificates, please submit your personal or company documents to the registration authority in the original or as an officially certified copy. Simple copies are generally not sufficient.
- in the event of theft: report the theft to the police
- in the event of loss: report the loss to the registration authority
(depending on the file situation, an affidavit may be required)
- depending on the process starting from: EUR 11.14
- affidavit in lieu of oath, if applicable: EUR 30.70
You must submit the application for a new registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document) or Part II (vehicle registration document) to the competent registration authority managing the licence plate.
You can also authorise a representative with a written power of attorney. However, any declaration in lieu of an oath that may be required before the registration authority can only be made by the person who lost the vehicle.
- In the event of theft, it is advisable to submit a confirmation of the theft report from the police.
- If a document is lost, it is usually necessary for the last holder of the document to appear in person, as the registration authority will usually require an affidavit (for a fee).
- Alternatively, the affidavit declaration can be made before a notary. In this case, the application can be submitted to the registration authority by an authorised representative with written power of attorney.
- Many registration authorities offer a form for the affidavit for download. If the registration certificate part II is deposited with a financial institution, ask the registration authority about the procedure.
- The loss of a registration certificate part II or a vehicle registration document is reported to the Federal Motor Transport Authority by the registration authority and published in the Verkehrsblatt. You can only collect the new registration documents once the deadline has passed. The licensing authority can provide you with information on the expected processing time.
