A corpse passport is only required for the transfer of a corpse from Saxony to another federal state if the federal state in question or a federal state touched on the journey requires one.

A corpse passport is also required for the transfer of a corpse abroad if the country of destination or a country touched on the journey requires one. The mortuary passport is issued in several languages.

Note: A mortuary passport is not required when transporting a corpse within Saxony.

For this procedure, you can make use of the service of the Single Point of Contact. This person will guide you through the procedure, take care of the correspondence with all the offices responsible for your request and will be available to you as a competent advisor.

• Death certificate
• confidential part of the death certificate
• Certificate of proper burial by the funeral home
• written power of attorney for the funeral home, if applicable
• Authorisation of the local authority in whose district the death occurred (as long as the death certificate does not bear the note of the registry office)
• Authorisation from the public prosecutor's office or the district court (if there are indications of a non-natural death or in the case of the body of an unknown person)

Check with the competent public health office whether you may need to submit further documents (for example, identity card or passport of the deceased person).

Transfer of a corpse abroad or to another country of the Federal Republic of Germany that provides for a corpse passport by law or regulation.

Issuance of mortuary passport: EUR 30.00 to EUR 90.00 frame fee

The corpse passport must be requested in writing by the relative responsible for the funeral or by the funeral home responsible for transportation. Use the application form If available.
