People are severely disabled if they have a degree of disability (GdB) of at least 50. Special regulations apply to the employment of severely disabled people.
In order to obtain or maintain a job, you can apply for your disability to be equalised with a severe disability if you have a degree of disability of less than 50 but at least 30.
The special regulations for severely disabled people apply to equivalent disabled people, except for entitlement to additional leave and free local public transport. These regulations include, for example:
- special protection against dismissal,
- Assistance with workplace equipment,
- Support from specialised services and
- Employment incentives for employers.
- You can submit your application for equal status to the Employment Agency informally (verbally, by telephone or in writing).
- You will then receive a form to complete and return.
- After your application has been checked, you will be informed whether it has been granted.
Adolescents and young adults
Disabled adolescents and young adults are treated in the same way as severely disabled people during the period of vocational training in companies and offices. This also applies if the degree of disability is less than 30 or a degree of disability has not been determined. No application is required for this.
The special regulations for severely disabled persons do not apply to young people and young adults with equivalent status. Employers providing training nevertheless receive subsidies towards the costs of vocational training from the Integration Office.
