If you are not entitled to a transitional allowance, you can apply for a training allowance for initial vocational training from the Employment Agency (Agentur für Arbeit) as a person with a disability.
The amount of the training allowance depends on two factors:
- Training allowance requirement rate
- the income to be taken into account if the training is professional
In order to be able to cover one's own living costs during a training measure, lump sums are paid out. This means that no individual costs for rent, clothing or food, for example, are covered.
The amount of the needs depends on
- the type of measure you are participating in,
- the type of accommodation during the measure, and
- Your age and marital status.
When submitting the application for training allowance (Ausbildungsgeld), the following documents must usually be brought along:
- Proof of need (e.g. costs for accommodation)
- Proof of income in the case of professional training (e.g. tax assessment notice from parents, proof of training allowance)
- Copy of the training contract in the case of professional training
- Presence of a disability
- first vocational training
- Participation in a professional preparation training measure including basic training,
- Participation in an individual in-company qualification within the framework of supported employment, or
- the applicant is undergoing the initial professional training or the training area of a workshop for disabled people
Except in the case of professional training, your income is not taken into account. If you complete your training, it is included in the calculation:
- Your income,
- the income of your spouse or registered partner, and
- the income of your parents
Notice:
- If you receive transitional allowance, you are not entitled to training allowance.
- In principle, the regulations for professional training allowance apply.
Deviating from this, there are special regulations that only apply to the training allowance. This applies in particular to the determination of the amount of need and the imputation of income. For example, the income allowances for the training allowance are higher than those for the vocational training allowance.
- You must submit the application in writing. To do so, make an appointment for counselling by telephone or in writing at the employment agency responsible for you.
- You can obtain the necessary application form from your counselling specialist, who will assist you with the application.
if the application is submitted in time before the start of the training/measure:
- approximately one month after the start of the training/measure
If the application is submitted after the start of the training/measure, processing will take approximately one month.
Duration of payment
- for vocational training: 18 months
- for all other training measures: 12 months
If the measure lasts longer, the Employment Agency will automatically send a questionnaire for the continued granting of the training allowance.
- for holiday periods that are recognised as part of the measure
- for absences for health reasons: until the end of the 3rd calendar month from the day of the illness
If the end of the measure is before the end of this period, the receipt of the training allowance also ends with it.
- for absences for reasons other than health reasons: if an important reason is recognised
The Employment Agency recognises as important reasons for interrupting participation, for example:
- Marriage
- Birth of a child
- Change of residence
- Attendance at a court hearing
Note: If you submit the application after your training or measure has started, the training allowance will only be paid from the beginning of the month in which you submitted the application.
