The handling of weapons or ammunition is regulated by the Federal Weapons Act. If you want to take weapons with you when travelling within the European Union (EU) or in Iceland, Norway and Switzerland - for example to take part in a shooting competition - you will need a European firearms pass.
In some countries, prior authorisation from the competent authority is required before entering the country and must be entered in the firearms pass. You should therefore enquire about the exact conditions at the foreign representation responsible for your country of residence (embassy or consulate general) before travelling.
Certain exemptions apply to hunters and marksmen in some member states.
- Application form (firearms licence, application)
- Weapons possession card in which the weapon you wish to carry is registered
- Photograph (portrait)
You must be authorised to possess the weapons you wish to have entered in the European firearms pass.
- Issue of the European Firearms Pass (EFP): EUR 80.00
- Registration and deregistration of weapons in the EFP: EUR 35.00 per weapon
- Please only apply for the European firearms pass using the officially prescribed form. If it is not available here, you can obtain the form from the competent authority.
- Fill in the relevant fields on the application form and submit it to the regulatory authority together with the required documents.
