Anyone wishing to hunt must have a valid annual hunting licence in their name. The annual hunting licence is issued on application by the lower hunting authority, usually for three hunting years.

The hunting licence can also be issued as a daily hunting licence for 14 consecutive days. Anyone wishing to practise falconry requires a falconry hunting licence.

• Proof of expertise (hunter's examination certificate)

• Proof of valid hunting liability insurance with cover of at least EUR 500,000 for personal injury and EUR 50,000 for damage to property

• Minimum age: 16 years
• Proof of the required expertise (hunting examination)
• Proof of hunting liability insurance
• Reliability and personal suitability in accordance with the Bundesjagdgesetz (BJagdG) in conjunction with the Waffengesetz (WaffG)

Administration fee

• Annual hunting licence: EUR 70.00
• Daily hunting licence: EUR 25.00
• Youth hunting licence: EUR 20.00

Hunting levy (additional)

• Annual hunting licence: EUR 20.00 / year of validity
• Daily and youth hunting licence: EUR 10.00 each

You can apply for a hunting licence in person or in writing; you should apply in person for the first time.

• If all requirements are met, the hunting licence will be issued.
• The authority will hand you the document in person or send it to you by post.
• If you authorise another person to collect the document, they must present a power of attorney from you.

Validity

• Annual hunting licence: up to three hunting years
• Daily hunting licence: 14 days
• Youth hunting licence: one hunting year

Duration of hunting year: 01.04. - 31.03.

Note: You will only receive the hunting licence for the period for which you have taken out the insurance.

YOUTH HUNTING LICENCE

If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you will receive a youth hunting licence for one hunting year. You may only hunt with this licence if accompanied by a person with parental authority or an authorised supervisor. The accompanying person must be experienced in hunting.
