Application for the issue of a supplementary sheet with a token to the ID card for severely disabled persons for the use of free transport in public transport according to § 228 of the Social Code Book IX (SGB IX) in conjunction with § 3a of the Ordinance on Severely Disabled Persons' ID Cards (SchwbAwV)

Severely disabled persons whose mobility in road traffic is considerably impaired are entitled to be transported free of charge in local public transport.

Free travel is granted to disabled persons, persons with exceptional walking disabilities, helpless, deaf and blind persons under the conditions specified by law.

Disabled person's card with supplementary sheet and token as proof

In order to be able to use the free transport, you need a supplementary sheet with a token, which you can apply for at the competent authority. You can decide for yourself whether you want a token for six months or a whole year. As a rule, you will have to pay a co-payment for the token.

Free travel on local public transport

With your severely disabled person's ID card with supplementary sheet and a valid token to carry with you, you can travel free of charge not only on the buses and trams of the regional transport associations, but also on all local trains of Deutsche Bahn AG throughout Germany. Since 01.09.2011, the route list has been abolished with the result that the free travel entitlement can be used throughout Germany without restriction in the following local trains of DB Regio AG free of charge in second class:

• S-Bahn
• Regional train (RB)
• Regional Express (RE)
• Interregio-Express (IRE).

Carriage of an accompanying person

You are entitled to take an accompanying person with you free of charge if your severely disabled person's pass shows the symbol B and the note "The need for constant accompaniment is proven". With the Bl sign, you are allowed to take a guide dog with you free of charge.

Your severely disabled person's card

Entry of one of the following signs in your severely disabled person's identity card:

• significant impairment of mobility in road traffic (symbol G)
• exceptional walking disability (aG)
• Blindness (Bl)
• helpless (sign H)
• deafness (symbol Gl)
• War-disabled persons and other persons entitled to a pension (registration mark VB or EB) who were already entitled to free transport before 1 October 1979 and who still have a reduction in earning capacity of at least 70

• for a half-yearly stamp: EUR 46.00
• for an annual stamp: EUR 91,00

Exemption from costs

Blind or helpless people and severely disabled people who receive one of the following benefits receive a token free of charge:

• Benefits to secure subsistence according to the Second Book of the German Social Code (Basic Security for Jobseekers)
• Assistance towards subsistence or basic security in old age and in case of reduced earning capacity according to the Twelfth Book of the Social Code (social assistance)
• Benefits under Book Eight of the Social Code (child and youth welfare)
• Benefits according to the Federal Law on the Welfare of War Victims (Bundesversorgungsgesetz). Under certain conditions, severely disabled persons, persons entitled to pensions and compensation are also transported free of charge and do not have to pay a contribution for the token. This is the case if they have been entitled to free travel since at least 01.10.1979 due to the consequences of their injury.

Reimbursement

Tokens issued for one year can be returned up to six months before expiry at the latest; half of the fee will then be refunded on application (this period also applies in the event of death).

Apply to the competent district or city in Saxony for a supplementary sheet with a token.

Notes: To apply, you must either have applied for a severely disabled person's pass or be in possession of a valid one. The supplementary sheet is part of the severely disabled person's card and is only valid together with it.

After paying the amount for the token, there is a processing time of at least two weeks until you receive your token.
