Application for an interest-free loan according to § 3 Family Care Time Act (FPfZG)

As an employee, you can apply for an interest-free loan from the Bundesamt für Familie und zivilgesellschaftliche Aufgaben (Federal Office for Family and Civil Society Affairs, BAFzA) for the time you are caring for close relatives. The loan helps you to cushion the loss of earnings during the leave of absence.

Leave of absence under the Nursing Time / Family Care Time Act for

• long-term care leave (§ 3 Para. 1 PflegeZG)

• care for minors in need of care (§ 2 para. 5 FPfZG and § 3 para. 5 PflegeZG)
• support in the last phase of life (§ 3 para. 6 PflegeZG)

Apply for the subsidised loan in writing using the prescribed forms.

• You can obtain the application form and other forms online from the Family Care Leave service area of the BAFzA (Amt24 link: Forms & Online Services).
• Fill out the application completely; it must contain the following information:
  • your name and address
  • name, address and family status of the person you are caring for
  • duration of the leave of absence and whether you have previously taken a leave of absence
  • amount, duration and indication of the time periods of the requested loan
• Compile the required supporting documents.
• Submit the complete documents to the competent office.

The Federal Office will immediately examine your application and inform you whether and in what amount you will be granted a subsidised loan.
