Application for the extension or renewal of an instructor licence in accordance with Regulation (EU) 1178/2011
If you hold an instructor rating as a flight instructor and would like to continue this activity beyond the period of validity of the rating, you must apply to the competent state authority for an extension or renewal. Such instructor authorisations are the flight instructor certificate (FI) and the certificate for instructors for class ratings (CRI).
- Proof of the requirements for renewing the teaching licence
- Proof of participation in a refresher seminar for authorised instructors
- Proof that a competence assessment has been carried out
Details of the required documents can be found on the application form.
Extension of an FI certificate
At least two of the following requirements must be met within the validity period:
- at least 50 hours of flight instruction in the relevant aircraft category as FI, CRI or as examiner in the case of an FI(A) instructor rating
- completed refresher training for FI instructors at an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) or at the competent authority
- competency assessment passed within the last 12 months immediately prior to the expiry date of the FI certificate (mandatory for FI(A) for every second renewal)
Revalidation of a CRI certificate
At least two of the following requirements must be met within the validity period:
- at least 10 hours of flight instruction as a CRI
(for CRI privileges for single-engine and multi-engine aircraft, equally divided between the two) - passed refresher training as a CRI with an ATO or a competent authority
- passed competency assessment for multi-engine or single-engine aeroplanes (mandatory for CRI for every second revalidation)
For expired FI or CRI certificates:
- Refresher training at an approved training organisation (ATO) or a competent authority within 12 months before applying for renewal
- passed competency assessment
Apply for the extension in writing to the competent authority. This is the state aviation authority in Saxony.
You can obtain the required application form and the form for proof of the requirements here via Amt24 or via the portal of the State Directorate of Saxony, Aviation and Inland Navigation Department.
- Submit the completed and signed application form and the form for proof of requirements, including all required documents, to the competent authority.
- The competent authority will check whether the requirements for the extension have been met.
- If the decision is positive, the entry is made in the licence.
Note: If a competence assessment is carried out as part of the renewal, the examiner is entitled to make the entry in the licence manually, provided that the requirements are met. The examiner sends the required documents to the competent body.
