You will soon be unemployed or are already unemployed. Here you will find information on registering as a jobseeker and unemployment benefit.
It is therefore important that you contact your local employment agency at an early stage. You can do this in person or electronically, without travelling and waiting times for you.

You will need to register for this. If you do not have a user account with the Federal Employment Agency, you can create one.
- valid identity card or valid passport with current registration certificate, if necessary with proof of residence status
- Pension insurance number
- Employment contract, training contract or letter of cancellation (if available)

- You have received your notice of termination or
- Your fixed-term employment contract will not be extended.
- You are of working age (over 16 and up to regular retirement age).
- You are available for work placement.
- You are not on sick leave.
- You must register as unemployed with the Employment Agency as soon as your employer has given you notice or you have given notice yourself or your employment relationship has been terminated by mutual agreement. You can register with the Employment Agency in person, in writing, online or by telephone.
- To meet the deadlines, it is sufficient to submit a notification stating your personal details and the date on which your employment relationship ended. This notification can be made in writing, by telephone or in person at the Employment Agency.
Registering as unemployed before becoming unemployed
- You can register with the Employment Agency within three months of becoming unemployed.

Personal counselling on job placement
- Once you have registered, you will receive a personal counselling appointment with your counsellor as soon as possible. This means that an applicant profile can be drawn up with you while your employment relationship is still ongoing. From this point on, it will be possible to send you suitable placement proposals.
- In any case, take the opportunity to become active before you become unemployed and seek advice on the support services offered by the agency.
- Please note! If you do not attend the initial invitation without good reason, you will be deregistered from the job centre, as the agency will not be able to record the information required for a suitable placement.
- Notification period for unemployment
- immediately after giving or submitting notice of termination
- at the latest, however, on the first day of unemployment.
- Notification period for fixed-term employment contracts: no later than three months before the end of the employment relationship
Please note! Late notification can lead to a one-week suspension of unemployment benefit.
