Special authorisation for the application of plant protection products by aircraft in accordance with § 18 (2) of the Pflanzenschutzgesetz (PflSchG)

 The application of plant protection products by aircraft is generally prohibited. The Plant Protection Service may, on request and under certain conditions, grant exemptions for steep slopes in vineyards and for the canopy area of forests. The plant protection product must be authorised or approved by the Bundesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit (Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, BVL) for use with aircraft.

• Working flight map in written and electronic form with the information according to point 3 of the JKI guideline
• Statements from the responsible environmental authorities (lower nature conservation authority, lower water authority)

• there are no other comparable options for effective application, or
• application by aircraft is expected to have less impact on human health or the ecosystem than application from the ground
• Consent from the nature conservation authority and water authority for application on the intended areas
• Application only by competent persons

EUR 70.00 to EUR 650.00 (depending on costs)

You can apply for authorisation to use a plant protection product with an aircraft by sending an informal letter to the competent authority.

• Your application must contain all the information and documents listed in Section 1 of the Verordnung über die Anwendung von Pflanzenschutzmitteln mit Luftfahrzeugen (Ordinance on the Application of Plant Protection Products by Aircraft). You can submit certain information later (e.g. on the pilot).
• Compile the required documents and submit them with your application to the competent authority.
• The competent authority will check the information in the application and the local circumstances. A site inspection will be carried out for this purpose.
• After a successful review, you will be issued the exemption authorisation in writing.
