If you as the mother are not married to the father of the child and no entries have been made in the custody register, you can request a certificate of sole custody from the responsible youth welfare office (Jugendamt).

If you as the mother are not married to the father of the child and no entries have been made in the custody register, you can request a certificate of sole custody from the responsible youth welfare office (Jugendamt).
The Jugendamt keeps a custody register for children of unmarried parents. Entries are made in this register if
- declarations of custody are made,
- custody has been transferred jointly in whole or in part on the basis of a final court judgement, or
- custody has been wholly or partially withdrawn from the mother or transferred to the father on the basis of a final court judgement.
If there is no entry in the custody register, you will be granted sole custody.
- Date of birth of the child
- Place of birth of the child
- Name of the child at the time of notarisation of the birth
Online Application
- Log in to the service account. If you do not yet have a service account, set one up under "Register free service account".
- Click on the button under Online application.
- Fill in the data fields according to the instructions and upload the required documents. You can save the details temporarily at any time and complete them at a later date. You can find cached versions under "My online applications" in your service account.
- Once all data fields have been completed, finalise the application. The data will be sent to the department responsible.
- You will find confirmation of receipt in the inbox of your service account. You will receive a notification of incoming messages to your personal e-mail address.
Written Application
- A written application can be made informally. If available, use the forms provided for the application. Submit the application to the department responsible. You can send the documents electronically by e-mail.
Verification
- The Jugendamt responsible will use the information you provide to determine whether there are any entries in the custody register.
- If no entries have been made in the custody register, you will be granted sole custody.
