If you wish to use the coat of arms of the Free State of Saxony for your communication or other purposes, you must apply to the Saxon State Chancellery before the planned use. This is because state coats of arms are subject to special protection as national emblems. Whether and for what purposes the state coat of arms may be used is determined by the Coat of Arms Act and the Coat of Arms Ordinance of the Free State of Saxony.
A coat of arms is a sign in the form of a shield created according to certain rules. Coats of arms represent people, families, certain groups of people or personified objects, organisations and communities.
Note: As an alternative to the Saxon coat of arms, you can use the state emblem, which is freely available to everyone. The state emblem is available for free download in a classic and a modern version (see -> Further information).
Please submit for examination:
1) a pictorial representation of the desired use of the coat of arms,
2) a precise description of the purpose of the desired use of the coat of arms and
3) an explanation of whether the coat of arms is to be used for artistic or scientific purposes.
You can submit your application to the State Chancellery in writing by letter or in text form by e-mail.
The responsible office will examine your application and then inform you of the decision.
