Fahrerlaubnis der Klassen AM, A, A1, A2 oder A beantragen

You can apply for a category AM, A1, A2 or A driving license.

With the AM driving license category, you can drive two- and three-wheeled mopeds and four-wheeled light motor vehicles.

With driving license category A1, you can drive motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimetres and up to 11 kW of power.

With driving license category A2, you can drive motorcycles with an output of up to 35 kW and no more than 70 kW.

With category A, you can drive motorcycles and three-wheeled motor vehicles.

The AM, A1, A2 and A driving license categories are issued for an unlimited period.

To obtain the license, you must pass a theoretical and practical test.

• Valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
• Application for a driving license, if applicable
• Valid driver's license, if applicable (for extensions)
• Current biometric photo in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view)
• Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of participation in a first aid training course

• You must have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
• The minimum age for category AM is 15 years.
• The minimum age for category A1 is 16 years.
• The minimum age for category A2 is 18 years.
• The minimum age for category A is 24 years for motorcycles with direct access, 21 years for three-wheeled motor vehicles with a power of more than 15 kW or 20 years for motorcycles with a previous possession of category A2 of at least 2 years.

The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

The application for the initial issue of a driving license expires if the theory test has not been passed within 12 months of receipt of the test order or the practical test has not been passed within 12 months of passing the theory test. There are also other deadlines that must be observed.

You will receive your first driving license (with the exception of AM, L and T) on probation. The probationary period lasts 2 years.

• First-time issue of a driving license for categories AM, A1, A2 or A
• The first issue of a driving license is understood to mean the issue to persons who have never held a driving license before
• the AM category entitles the holder to drive light two-wheeled motor vehicles of category L1e-B, three-wheeled mopeds of category L2e and light four-wheeled motor vehicles of category L6e
• category A1 entitles the holder to drive motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimetres and an output of up to 11 kW, where the ratio of power to weight does not exceed 0.1 kW/kg, as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles with symmetrically arranged wheels and an engine capacity of more than 50 cubic centimetres in the case of internal combustion engines or a maximum design speed of more than 45 km/h and an output of up to 15 kW
• category A2 entitles the holder to drive motorcycles (including those with sidecars) with a power output of up to 35 kW, a power-to-weight ratio of no more than 0.2 kW/kg and an output power of no more than 70 kW
• with a category A license, the applicant may drive motorcycles (including those with sidecars) with an engine capacity of more than 50 cm3 or with a maximum speed of more than 45 km/h determined by the type of construction, as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles with a power of more than 15 kW and three-wheeled motor vehicles with symmetrically arranged wheels and an engine capacity of more than 50 cm3 in the case of internal combustion engines or a maximum speed of more than 45 km/h determined by the type of construction and with a power of more than 15 kW.
