Fahrerlaubnis für die Klasse L beantragen

If you want to drive simple motor vehicles in agriculture, you must apply for a class L driving license (the "small tractor driving license").

With a category L driver's license (colloquially known as a "small tractor driver's license"), you can drive the following vehicles at the age of 16:

• Tractors intended and used for agricultural or forestry purposes with a maximum design speed of no more than 40 km/h
• combinations of these vehicles and trailers if they are driven at a maximum speed of 25 km/h
• self-propelled machinery, feed mixers, forklifts and other industrial trucks, each with a maximum design speed of 25 km/h
• Combinations of these vehicles and trailers

The category L driving license is issued for an unlimited period.

• Valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
• Application for a driver's license, if applicable
• Current biometric photo (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view)
• Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of participation in first aid training
• Details of the driving school

• Depending on the individual case, further documents may be required.

• You must have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
• You must have reached the minimum age of 16 years.

• The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
• If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

Only a theoretical test is required to obtain a category L driving license.

There is no probationary period for category L driving licenses.

• Driving license issued for the first time for category L
• The following motor vehicles can be driven with a category L license at the age of 16:
  • Tractors intended and used for agricultural or forestry purposes with a maximum design speed of no more than 40 km/h
  • Combinations of these vehicles and trailers if they are driven at a maximum speed of 25 km/h
  • self-propelled machinery, feed mixers, forklifts and other industrial trucks, each with a maximum design speed of 25 km/h or less
  • Combinations of these vehicles and trailers
• Responsible: competent driving license authority (usually that of the place of residence)
