Verlängerung einer Fahrerlaubnis der Klassen D, DE, D1 oder D1E beantragen

If you have a driving license for a D class and it is about to expire, you can apply for an extension at the driving license authority.

The driving license for categories D, DE, D1 or D1E is valid for a maximum of 5 years. If you have such a license and it is about to expire, you can have it extended. You submit the application to the driving license authority in your place of residence. The extension is also valid for a maximum of 5 years.

• valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
• current driver's license
• current biometric photo in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal shot)
• Proof of eyesight (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of physical and mental aptitude (not older than 1 year)
• if you are 50 years or older: performance psychology report (not older than 1 year)

• You have a driving license with a category D, D1, DE or D1E license.
• You are suitable to drive a bus.

The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

You can submit the application at the earliest 6 months before the expiry date of the previous driving license.

If you do not submit the application until after the expiry date of the previous driving license, a new driving license will be issued instead of an extension. The fact that you previously held a corresponding driving license will then no longer be evident from the new license.

You always get a new driver's license.
