If you wish to exhibit animals or make them available for this purpose, you require permission from your local veterinary authority.

In order to commercially exhibit animals or make them available for such purposes, you need an official permit.

The competent authority will check whether all legal requirements are met, in particular with regard to the manner in which the animals are kept and the protection and welfare of the animals. The permit refers specifically to the species and maximum number of animals as well as to the rooms and facilities specified in the application.

It is important to provide correct information, as a permit is invalid due to incorrect information and can be withdrawn at any time.

• The application must contain at least the following information:

• a detailed description of the planned activity,
• the location of the business (business address),
• details of the applicant, owner of the business (name, address, date and place of birth),
• Details of the person responsible for the activity, if this person is not the same as the respective business owner (name, address, date and place of birth),
• information on the expertise of the person responsible,
• Details of the animal species and the respective number of animals to be kept,
• Details of the premises and facilities: Floor plan, location sketch, description of the housing facilities for the animals with dimensions.

• The following documents must be attached to the application:

• Proof of the applicant's reliability:
  • Extract from the central trade register,
  • police clearance certificate
• Proof of the expertise and reliability of the person responsible: For example
  • Relevant training certificates,
  • Certificates of university degrees,
  • Certificates of further training,
  • Proof of many years of experience in handling the respective animal species,
• If necessary, plans of the rooms and facilities

• You provide proof of your expertise in relation to the respective animal species and activity.
• You provide evidence of your reliability in keeping and caring for the animals.
• You provide specific information, such as the exact species and maximum number of animals.
• You indicate the specific rooms and facilities in which the animals are kept.
• The facilities must allow the animals to be fed, cared for and housed in accordance with legal requirements.

Is based on the respective administrative fee schedule of the Saarland or the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under Saarland law.

• Submit your application to the State Office for Consumer Protection (LAV) by post or email to Tierschutzgewerbe@lav.saarland.de.
• Use the application form via the link below.
• Submit the required documents, which will first be checked for formal completeness.
• It will then be checked whether the proof of expertise and reliability can be deemed to have been provided.
• If necessary, you will be asked to comment again if there are any queries or need for clarification.
• Before the final decision is made, an on-site inspection is carried out to check compliance with the legal requirements.

If all requirements are met, the permit will be issued.
