If you wish to use road transport vehicles for the long-distance transportation of animals, you must apply for approval from the competent authority.

If you wish to use means of transport, such as truck trailers, car trailers or semi-trailers, for the long-distance transportation of animals, you must first obtain approval for the transportation of animals from both the motor vehicle authorities and the competent veterinary authorities. The transportation process includes the transport from the place of dispatch to the place of destination, including loading, unloading and, if necessary, accommodation at intermediate stations.

This regulation only applies to journeys lasting 8 hours or longer or, in the case of breeding and farm animals, lasting longer than 12 hours within Germany if they are associated with an economic activity.

• Declaration that you or your representative have not applied for approval from any other competent authority in Germany or a member state
• Previous proof of approval, if applicable
• If necessary, your competent authority can decide whether you need to submit further documents.

• Before starting work, you need approval for the means of transport used in accordance with the EU Animal Welfare Transport Regulation.
• You need approval from the vehicle authorities.
• You require approval from the relevant veterinary authorities.
• The means of transport are used for journeys lasting 8 hours or longer.
• For breeding and farm animals within Germany, transportation takes longer than 12 hours.
• The transportation is carried out in connection with an economic activity

This is based on the respective administrative fee schedule of the Saarland or the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under Saarland law.

• Make the application and submit the required documents, which will first be checked for formal completeness.
• These and the road vehicle will then be checked by the competent authority.
• If necessary, you will be asked to comment again if there are any queries or need for clarification.
• If all the necessary requirements are met, you will receive your license.

Once you have submitted all the documents in full, the responsible office will process them promptly.

You may only use the means of transport once you have received approval.
