If you are between 16 and 18 years old and would like to hunt, you need a valid youth hunting license.

Issuing, reissuing and re-issuing

A youth hunting license can be issued to persons between the ages of 16 and 18 and entitles them to hunt in the company of an experienced person who has been appointed in writing by their legal guardian. The youth hunting license is specifically designed to give young people the opportunity to gain experience in hunting. Social hunts are not permitted with a youth hunting license. Comprehensive regulations and safety precautions apply to ensure safety during the hunt.

The same age requirements and accompanying regulations are required for the new issue of a youth hunting license as for the first issue. If the youth hunting license has previously been revoked for reasons of non-compliance with regulations, a reassessment of suitability and reliability must be carried out. If there are any changes in the law, the existing permit must be amended.

The reissue of a youth hunting license is based on an assessment of personal qualifications and previous hunting experience. Additional certificates of participation in further education or training courses may have to be obtained before the license is reissued. The competent hunting authority reserves the right to re-examine the fulfillment of all statutory criteria before reissuing the youth hunting license.

Daily and annual hunting license

The youth hunting license is limited in time and can be applied for daily or annual periods, depending on individual hunting needs and residence regulations. The daily hunting license is valid for 14 consecutive days and can be extended twice during the hunting year.

Amendment

An amendment to the youth hunting license may be necessary if the accompanying person changes or additional safety precautions have to be taken. If the legal landscape changes or the conditions for the escort are redefined, the youth hunting license must be updated accordingly. The application for a change should be made in good time to the relevant hunting authority and all necessary forms and accompanying documents must be submitted.

Revocation/withdrawal

A youth hunting license is revoked or withdrawn if the accompanying conditions in accordance with the guidelines are no longer fulfilled or if there are safety concerns. This may also be the case if the young person violates the hunting laws or the insurance is no longer valid. The competent hunting authority checks all relevant documents and reserves the right to take measures to ensure legal compliance.

Entry of a hunting area in the youth hunting license

In the case of a youth hunting license, the entry of the authorized hunting area is required in order to clearly define where hunting may be carried out in company. This entry ensures that the hunting activities are carried out in accordance with the regulations and in the correct company. The accompanying person must also confirm the area and the other general conditions so that legally secure hunting practice can take place.

Issue, new issue and re-issue

• You are between 16 and 18 years old.
• You have an accompanying person with hunting experience and the written consent of your legal guardian.
• You meet all legal requirements without being barred due to previous violations.
• You have successfully passed the written, oral and practical parts of the hunting examination.
• You have valid hunting liability insurance.
• You fulfill all legal requirements, including reliability.
• You ensure that the transportation of your hunting weapons complies with legal requirements.
• You meet the requirements for the lawful carrying of hunting weapons in Germany.

Change

• You would like to change the accompanying person or accompanying regulation in the youth hunting license.
• You have the written consent of your legal guardian for the change.
• You submit all necessary documents to document the changes.

Revocation/withdrawal

Your youth hunting license will be revoked if:

• The consent of the parent or legal guardian expires.
• The accompanying person no longer meets the required safety standards.

Your youth hunting license is revoked if:

• Violations of the youth hunting rules are detected.
• Missing or insufficient accompaniment is detected.

Entry of a hunting area in the youth hunting license

• You have a valid youth hunting license.
• You have the consent of your legal guardian to hunt on the specific area.
• You ensure that you are accompanied by an experienced and authorized hunting guide.
• You meet all legal requirements for entering the area in your youth hunting license.

Issue, new issue and re-issue

• You submit your application online or by post to the competent hunting authority.
• You submit the consent of your legal guardian and the accompanying person
• You submit all the required documents, including your lease agreement - and a copy of your hunting license if you are applying for a new license or reissue
• You prepare and submit your hunting test results.
• Your hunting area is successfully confirmed in the youth hunting license.
• If the accompanying person does not meet the requirements, your application will be refused.

Change

• You submit your application online or by post to the competent hunting authority.
• You submit all the necessary documents, including the current youth hunting license and proof of the planned change.
• You prepare your hunting test results and submit them.
• Your change application is reviewed by the hunting authority and the documents submitted are carefully checked. If the documents are incomplete or incorrect, you will receive a request for correction.
• Your hunting area will be entered in your youth hunting license by the competent hunting authority
• The changes will be entered after a successful check.
• If there are legal concerns, the changes will be refused.

Revocation/withdrawal

• The competent hunting authority continuously checks whether all conditions for holding a youth hunting license are met.
• If violations of legal regulations or a lack of reliability are found, a procedure is initiated to review the youth hunting license.
• You will receive official notification of the reason and the legal grounds for the revocation or withdrawal.
• You will be given the opportunity to comment on the allegations or submit missing documents within a certain period of time.
• If there are sufficient grounds, your youth hunting license will be revoked or withdrawn and you will receive a legally binding decision.

Entry of a hunting area in the youth hunting license

• You submit an application to the competent hunting authority to register the hunting area in the youth hunting license.
• You submit all the necessary documents, including the hunting lease and any declarations of consent from other parties involved.
• The hunting authority checks the legal validity and completeness of the documents submitted.
• If the check is successful, the hunting area will be officially entered in your youth hunting license.
• You will receive a notification confirming the entry.
• If there are any legal concerns or missing documents, the entry will be rejected and you will be notified accordingly

Notes

You will only receive the hunting license for the period for which you have taken out the insurance. The insurance company can also send the proof directly to the competent authority electronically.
The hunting license alone does not entitle you to actually hunt. In Germany, the right to hunt belongs to landowners, who (if they own sufficient land and hold a valid hunting license) may hunt on their own land or must join local hunting associations of landowners, who then usually lease the right to hunt to hunters.

The hunting license is valid throughout Germany.
The hunting tax is earmarked for:

- Measures for the conservation and improvement of wildlife habitats
- wildlife biology research projects, studies of game habitats (biotopes) and game management
- Measures and facilities for the further training of hunters
- Measures to improve animal welfare in hunting, in particular the promotion of tracking with dogs and the training of dogs for hunting
- Measures for the prevention and control of diseases of game that are transmissible to humans or animals kept in the care of humans

Special features

Before issuing a hunting license for the first time, the competent hunting authority must obtain an extract from the Federal Central Register, which can take up to 4 weeks. Please
therefore contact your hunting authority during the current or after passing the hunting examination
