Have you obtained a degree as a specialist dentist abroad and want to work as a specialist dentist in Schleswig-Holstein? Then you must submit an application for recognition of the specialist dental title.

If you want to work as a specialist dentist in Schleswig-Holstein, you must have your specialist dental degree obtained abroad recognised.

The application for recognition must be accompanied by all certificates and evidence issued during the training. This includes:

• Your license to practice medicine or the professionally unrestricted permission according to the Dentistry Act;
• possibly, in the case of dental training completed abroad, proof that the equivalence of the dental training has been recognized,
• proof of identity,
• a tabular list of your qualifications and your professional experience
• the certificates or attestations attesting to the completion of the prescribed periodic training
• if applicable, certificates of conformity
• possibly additional evidence for the examination of equivalence
• written declaration as to whether and to which body you have already submitted an application for a determination of equivalence

The required evidence must be submitted as certified copies, translated into German if necessary; the date of certification of the copies must not be older than eight weeks at the time of application.

The recognition of your continuing education qualification is only possible if you already have a license to practice dentistry valid in Germany or a professionally unrestricted professional license in accordance with the Dentistry Act. For this, you must be personally and healthily suitable.

You must prove your German language skills when you are granted a professional license/license to practice medicine. For the recognition of the continuing education qualification, your German language skills will not be checked again.

A fee is charged for the recognition of the continuing education title, which may vary depending on the necessary verification procedure.

Recognition must be applied for in writing at the Schleswig-Holstein Dental Association. It decides on the application and checks whether you have acquired all the special or additional knowledge and skills required for recognition in terms of content and times. The equivalence of your specialist dental degree is given if the content of the continuing education does not differ significantly from the content determined by the Dental Association in the continuing education regulations.

You will receive the decision on your recognition no later than three (certificates from EU countries) or four months (certificates from third countries) after receipt of the complete documents.

There are no deadlines to be observed.

The service centres of the "Integration through Qualification" network (IQ Network) will be happy to advise and support you before, during and after the recognition procedure.

You will be informed of the result of the recognition procedure in an appealable decision. You can appeal against negative decisions within one month.

Further training periods already completed abroad can be recognised even if the further training has not yet been completed or the further training is to be continued in Schleswig-Holstein.
