If you have several apartments in Germany, one of these apartments is your main residence and the others are secondary residences. A main residence is the home that is mainly used by you and, in the case of married couples, the home that is mainly used jointly.
You must register every secondary residence, even if it is located within your city or municipality.
The obligation to register the secondary residence exists regardless of whether you are entitled to use the residence as a person subject to registration or whether or not you have the required residence permit.
You must appear in person at the office to register or issue a power of attorney to a person.
If you are registered in Germany and move into another apartment for up to six months, you do not have to register or deregister. However, if you have not moved out of this apartment after six months, you must register with the registration office within two weeks.
