Information on continuing education in general and on continuing education courses in Schleswig-Holstein (course portal).

In order to meet the economic, social, demographic and ecological challenges of modern society, it is becoming increasingly important to undergo further training. Only well-trained and educated people can contribute to their personal employability, be innovative and help companies maintain a strong competitive position.

Continuing education has established itself as the fourth pillar of the education system, alongside the school, university and dual vocational training system. Unlike the school and higher education sectors, this is not purely the responsibility of the state. The economy's demand for skilled workers and for ever more high-quality qualifications is increasing the importance of continuing education.

In promoting continuing education, the state government of Schleswig-Holstein is focusing on improving the framework conditions and creating incentives for individuals or companies to engage in continuing education. Funding is currently being provided in particular for

• Modernization of vocational training facilities (investments in construction, conversion, equipment, with up to 50% of the total eligible costs),
• further training advice and information (through twelve further training associations in Schleswig-Holstein) and
• further training for employees in small and medium-sized enterprises (via funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) from the Future Work Program (ZPA)).

The aim is to make it easier for all citizens and all companies in the state, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to access further training, to strengthen the demand for further training and to increase participation in further training.

The so-called "continuing education associations" are a defined group of beneficiaries who can apply for funding. The state funding is co-financing, which requires co-financing with own funds. Further details are set out in the respective funding guidelines.
