There are marketing standards for poultry meat to simplify trade. They are intended to make the market more transparent. They apply to certain categories of poultry meat from chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guinea fowl. This poultry meat may only be marketed within the EU if it complies with these standards and has not undergone any treatment (with the exception of cold treatment).
Inspectors from the "Trade Class Monitoring" department check the quality of the poultry meat. They also check compliance with the minimum conditions by poultry producers who are authorized to use information on the type of farming (e.g. free-range, free-range, extensive free-range). Furthermore, the correct labeling of poultry meat (fresh, frozen, deep-frozen), poultry cuts, pre-packaged poultry meat and non-pre-packaged poultry meat is checked at all trade levels. The water content of frozen or deep-frozen chicken is also checked, which must not exceed a certain technically unavoidable value.
Violations of the applicable legal regulations are punished with warnings or fines. If necessary, it will also be checked whether the company's registration for the production of poultry from special forms of husbandry should be withdrawn.
